My attitude towards my PhD and general emotional stability is highly correlated by the attitude of the person I am talking to.
Scenario 1: meeting with supervisors regarding imaging results that they recently described as 'promising'. Lies, lies! The results are CRAP. How could you ever think they were acceptable, let alone promising. The previous students' results were far better than these. We need to re-think the point of your project, as this is just not going to work!
Scenario 2: Drinking on Friday afternoon leads to a discussion on the potential of my research project when combined with another students'. This leads to further drinking and discussions about science and life in general. Wow, we're going to have a Nature paper out soon!
The solution: go drinking more? Avoid supervisors?
Which is better, depressed or deluded?
