Positive correlations

I've observed a strong correlation between the support of my supervisors and my attitude towards my PhD project. It's a simple linear relationship: if they tell me that my results are meaningless, then I feel meaningless. Something like this:

I've now experienced my first ever 'positive' meeting with my supervisors. For the first time ever I emerged from the meeting without an overhanging sense of anguish and foreboding. This feels wonderful! I suggest that positive interactions have an exponential effect on my mental well-being. Surf that PhD!

If only I could maintain this attitude, then perhaps I could tentatively imagine that sometime in the future, some kind of data collection might be possible...
